About the Co-op

As an Industrial Design Co-Op, at Owens-Illinois, Inc., you will be part of a team responsible for real projects for real customers with real deliverables and deadlines.

This Co-Op position is tasked with working in a team environment to develop innovative and aesthetically pleasing concept designs supporting a specific brand position. It requires building a keen understanding of specific brand tenets and the ability to visually conceptualize aesthetic, ergonomic and innovative solutions for that brand. You will gain valuable experience, working closely with our New Product Development, Sales, Engineering, Quality and Production functions. The work you generate will be used to gain new business and support existing business for O-I.

The position also supports the development of Industrial Design as an essential function within O-I and promotes awareness of our team as an innovative, creative and successful design service.

We are looking for a well-rounded sophomore, pre-junior, junior or senior who possesses exceptional design and presentation skills, is articulate, eager to learn and interested in the challenge of creating innovative glass packaging solutions.

Group Leader, Innovation and Product Design North America

Position Requirements:

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Sophomore or above pursuing a Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Industrial Design

  • A strong GPA.

  • Experience using 2D and 3D design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Alias Design, Sketchbook Pro, KeyShot, and WACOM tablet) preferred

  • A portfolio showing us the skills required to perform the job function. This should include examples from school, work or extra-curricular activities

  • Excellent sketching and ideation skills

  • Exceptional design, presentation, and communication skills. Job Responsibilities: Throughout your Co-Op, you’ll be exposed to all phases of the new product development process while working on design projects. Specifics include:

  • Competitive product research

  • Brainstorming / ideation

  • Concept sketching / concept development

  • Sketch renderings

  • CAD modeling

  • KeyShot rendering

  • Graphic design, tailoring product branding to support emotion of the structure

  • Presentation development

  • Human factors research
